Flora Theme - Royal Bluebell
The coin's reverse depicts Royal Bluebell (Wahlenbergia gloriosa) in colour. Adopted as the floral emblem of the Australian Capital Territory on 26 May 1982, the small perennial herb which bears violet blue flowers, is found only in sub-alpine areas of south-east Australia. The first recorded specimen was collected by J.H.Willis, who exhibited it at the Field Naturalists' Club of Victoria on 11 March 1916. The coloured reverse includes the year-date.
Australian Legal Tender
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coin depicts Ian Rank-Broadley's effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on its obverse.
