Celebrates Historic Anniversary

Strictly Limited Mintage

Stunning Presentation Packaging

European contact with the Australian continent began 400 years ago when the Dutch ship Duyfken (Little Dove) made landfall on the western shore of Cape York in 1606. Under the command of Willem Janszoon, the ship's crew charted 320 kilometres of the coast around the modern town of Weipa, literally putting Australia on the map.

Proof Quality Pure Silver

Struck from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality, this 2006-dated commemorative coin celebrates Janszoon's historic voyage of discovery.

Coloured Reverse Design

The coin's reverse depicts a coloured representation of Janszoon's original map of a section of Cape York. The design also features an image of the Duyfken under sail. Other design elements include a stylised compass, the inscriptions 'Australia on the Map' and '1606 -2006', as well as The Perth Mint's 'P' mintmark.

Australian Legal Tender

Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coin’s obverse depicts Ian Rank-Broadley’s effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Presentation Packaging

Each coin is housed in a stitched leatherette case. Each case comes in a spectacular outer box depicting a coloured image of Janszoon's map within a decorative cartouche on the lid. A superb rendering of the Duyfken appears inside the box.

Numbered Certificate of Authenticity

A numbered Certificate of Authenticity accompanies each coin.
