The New Zealand Hamilton Frog is the star animal in the 2008 edition of our annual endangered species coin series. The Hamilton’s Frog is New Zealand’s rarest native frog and possibly the world’s most elusive! The land-loving Hamilton’s Frog is found only in the wild on Takapourewa Island in the Marlborough Sounds of New Zealand. Still on the “critically endangered” list, the Hamilton’s Frog is said to descend from one of the most ancient amphibian lineages.
